Just like that, Christmas is over. It came with much fanfare but ended quickly and quietly.
Life returns to normal after just one more celebration of the new year ahead.
This is my favorite time of the holiday season. I’m a thinker, an analyzer, so I love this time of reflection.
The in between.
The ending of the old. Looking back on all the good times of 2016 and thanking God, then pondering the bad. The things that we were so fearful might happen, that did. The things that we thought would change life for us forever, that did.
And the realization, once again, that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If He was a good God before the trial we experienced then He is the same good God in the trial, and in the after.
God is for us and if 2016 was a difficult year, which is seems it was for many, then He is still for us and will lead us into the good that flows from the difficult. We can look to 2017 with hope because He can be trusted.
I am always amazed at how the trials of life end the same as Christmas did, quickly and quietly.
It never seems like it when we’re walking through the difficulties. There is always a voice that whispers to us that the trial won’t end, that it’s not a season but a constant. It’s permanent. But don’t listen to that voice because it is not God but the enemy whispering such heartache.
We can be certain that one thing is a constant and that is, change. Things never stay the same.
Can I tell you a secret? Trust and hope are imperative to the healing process. And so is worship.
Worship is our secret weapon in the war on discouragement, sadness, and emotional pain.
Worship – loud, bold, hope-filling worship of a God you may even doubt at times. It’s this kind of worship that shakes the atmosphere and sends a strong message to the enemy that even in my pain and my doubt I will trust the One who created me, the only One who can be trusted.
It says, I may be weak but He, in me, is strong. Stronger than all the forces of darkness combined.
It says that I know who I am and whose I am.
It says to God, I am wholly-devoted to You!
And it opens the door to good things, to healing and wholeness. To a new year and a new season.
I pray that God blesses each and every one of you and makes His face shine upon you in 2017. It is my hope, our hope here at Rebelogix, that you would see the good of God everywhere you look. Even in the trials that do not last forever and have the ability, if we let them, to bring us closer to our good, good God.
Let’s make 2017 be the year of bold worship, brave living, and wholly-devoted trust in a God who deserves all of this from us and more.
Happy New Year, indeed.
