We all have them. Those days that seem hectic and exhausting. I confess that mine are usually a result of some serious procrastination! Regardless, the less time I spend with Jesus the more susceptible I becoming to being negative, grumpy, and unpleasant. I seem to easily become sucked into the chaos this world is experiencing. The more my filter gets clogged with the words of the world, the more I need the true Word, Jesus, to clear it out! Only then am I able to see and think clearly, and my attitude becomes positive again.
I think we can all agree that the world we are living in seems to be in a constant state of chaos. It feels like we’re on this rising elevator of erratic behavior and unpredictability. I’m not just talking about crazy events and natural disasters but people themselves seem more erratic. Most seem to be living with no true direction, but instead following the most attractive path, believing, saying, and doing whatever they think is right. In reality they end up experiencing uncertainty, inconsistency, and chaos. The irony is that most people actually want stability, consistency, and peace in their lives and wonder why they can’t seem to find it!? It’s especially heartbreaking to see this common for those in God’s church.
Without a clear understanding of our faith, our identity, and our purpose, we find ourselves easily confused and caught up in all of the “chaotic chatter” that is prevalent in our society today. It too, is all erratic. It’s as if people are running around on fire and consumed by fear. For the Christian the simple solution is to “stop, drop, and roll”. We need to “stop” participating in the chaos, “drop” to our knees and surrender daily to Jesus, and “roll” with the life He has called us to live! Now, more than ever, we need to understand what we believe. I’m here to tell you that if you are a Christian, then your faith, identity, and purpose are in Jesus…nothing else! It all boils down to Him. If you are confused on how to live, work, love, or even vote…the answer is with Him! The more time we spend with Jesus, learning and striving to live a life that honors Him, the easier it becomes to recognize the Holy Spirit’s voice and find direction for our lives. It’s really quite simple, but not always easy! Life has a way, or I should say, the enemy has a way of distracting us and making it difficult to pursue God.
However, when did anything worthwhile in life come easy? It’s no secret that we give the most attention to the things that are most important to us. It’s simply not human nature to appreciate the things we’ve attained with ease. It’s the things in life that require our blood, sweat, and tears that hold the most value to us. Although God made it easy for us to receive forgiveness and salvation it certainly didn’t come easy! We need to remember, each day, that Jesus actually shed His blood, His sweat, and His tears for us! Name anyone….anyone else who has done that for you? In response to His sacrifice I’m willing to do the things that are difficult. To start, I will surrender each day to Him! That includes getting up early to pray, studying my bible (not just reading it), and this one is hard, pausing and listening to His voice before I voice mine.
Our culture takes a lot of pride in being able to multitask, and make things easy or simple for us. This can be helpful when you’re trying to juggle 3 kids under 5, but God desires something better from us! We need to stop resisting obedience and complaining that life can be hard. Instead, we need to recognize that difficulties are actually good for us! They are what encourages every type of growth in our lives and makes us strong!
2 Corinthians 12:10 tells us, “Therefore, I’m all right with weaknesses, insults, disasters, harassments, and stressful situations for the sake of Christ, because when I’m weak, then I’m strong.”
I want to be strong! I want to be able to withstand the confusion and chaos that is so abundant in this world. I need to trust that He is in control. I need to listen less and less to what the world is saying and more and more to what God is saying. It can be difficult to distinguish truth from untruth if we aren’t saturated with the True Word….Jesus himself! We need to remember to daily “stop, drop, and roll. Surrendering our day, time, thoughts, and desires to Him is anything but easy, especially at first, but the more we do it the more we are able bring a little Heaven to this chaotic earth and extinguish those crazy fires! I’m not proclaiming to have it all figured out. In fact, I’m still learning new things about God, love, and life, every day. I encourage you to search to understand God’s truth so that you will be able to recognize the enemy’s lies, and rebel against the chaos! I challenge you to be rebellious to the current erratic culture and to be strong in the love, joy, and peace that comes from surrendering your life to Jesus!
